Church AED Donated Just In Time to Save Life at Dinner Dance

Having read about the benefits of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), Sister Carole Temming was determined to find a way to get one. One day, the nurse at Immaculate Heart of Mary parish in Cincinnati made a phone call to a parishioner who is an officer at Cintas, a distributor of the Defibtech ReviveR™ AED, who agreed to anonymously donate one of the lifesaving devices.

Only 10 days after the AED arrived, parishioner Keith White suffered sudden cardiac arrest while dancing with his wife at a dinner celebrating the parish's 60th anniversary. One of the individuals coming to White's aid knew about the new AED, which was used to revive him. The parish now has three AEDs on hand for the church, school and athletic fields.

Now recovered after receiving treatment for two blood vessel blockages, White is a distributor of Defibtech AEDs. Through his involvement with the American Heart Association (AHA), he tells his story to community groups and volunteers for special events.

"I enjoy letting people know that this unit can make a difference – it saves lives and saved my life," White says. "Don't think about the money aspect – once a life is lost, it's lost."
