Having lost a 19-year-old daughter to sudden cardiac arrest, Bert Cattoni turned this painful experience into a motivation to save lives.

Now the owner of Cardiac Rescue Systems and a distributor for Defibrillators USA, he worked with the American River Transportation Company (ARTCO), the marine division of Archer Daniels Midland Co., to place automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on 85 towboats.

One of these AEDs recently saved the life of an Illinois River towboat worker. ARTCO President Royce Wilken said purchasing the AEDs was the best investment the company ever made.
