Defibtech Design and Utility Patents

March 15, 2010

Defibtech announced today that it continues to grow its list of design and utility patents for various aspects of the Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) that the company designs and manufactures.

Defibtech designs and manufactures Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which can revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Health experts estimate that sudden cardiac arrest kills more people in the United States than gun violence, traffic accidents, AIDS, and breast and prostate cancer combined.

The Defibtech design team has obtained 11 patents, including both design and utility patents. The Defibtech development team includes designers that not only have experience in designing medical equipment, but also has a background in high-tech, high-volume consumer product development. This diversity of skills and experience allows Defibtech to leverage techniques that are not typically known to design groups in conventional medical device companies.

Defibtech AEDs include the Lifeline, the Lifeline VIEW and the Lifeline AUTO. When the Lifeline AED was introduced into the market, it brought the price of AEDs down by employing industry leading design features and manufacturing techniques. The Lifeline VIEW features a full-color LCD display, and is the first and only AED on the market to use digital video to show the user how to save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim in real-time. The Lifeline AUTO is a fully-automatic AED that analyzes the victim’s heart rhythm and automatically delivers a shock, if a shock is necessary.

AEDs revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest caused by ventricular fibrillation. Studies show that if victims are defibrillated within a minute or two after arrest, more than 70 percent survive. If defibrillation is delayed for more than 10 minutes, only 5 percent live, making immediate access to AEDs vital.
