Defibtech Continues to Earn Accolades for AED Quality and Design

Guilford, CT
May 10, 2011

Defibtech continues to earn accolades for the quality and design of its automated external defibrillators (AEDs), with recognitions for its Lifeline View™ AED leading the way. The Lifeline View is the only external defibrillator that integrates video, voice, pictures and text to help save the life of a sudden cardiac arrest victim in real time. Sudden cardiac arrest afflicts as many as 450,000 Americans a year.

So far in 2011, the View has earned the Medical Design Excellence Award from Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry magazine; the Excellence in Design Award from Appliance Design magazine; and the Good Design™ Award from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

In addition, within the past 12 months, Defibtech has won the Design of the Decade Award from the Industrial Designers Society of America and a Gold Connecticut Quality Improvement Award (CQIA) Innovation Prize. A finalist in the 2011 American Business AwardsSM, Defibtech was honored by the U.S. Department of Commerce for creating jobs through exports and named one of Connecticut’s fastest-growing technology companies.

“Since Defibtech’s AEDs first revolutionized the market in 2002, they have set the standard for ease of use, reliability and affordability,” said Defibtech CEO Dr. Glenn W. Laub. “These recent awards recognize that we’ve raised the bar even higher.” For example, during an emergency, the View guides a rescuer through each step of CPR and defibrillation like no other AED on the market, literally showing and telling a rescuer exactly what to do to save a life.  When the View’s voice prompt says, “Place pads on patient’s chest,” the video shows the rescuer exactly where to place the pads. These features are especially important to untrained, “Good Samaritan” rescuers who arrive on the scene of sudden cardiac arrest in a public area or workplace.

Laub added that Defibtech’s design and engineering team has extensive experience in both medical device and consumer product design. This experience has enabled them to produce AEDs that are medically reliable, yet still easy to use and affordable. The team includes physicians, electrical engineers, software developers and industrial designers.
