Defibtech, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association Launch Effort to Place Public-Access AEDs in Critical Areas
WASHINGTON, D.C. - June
2, 2008 - In an effort to strengthen the "chain of survival" in communities
across the nation, Defibtech and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association (SCAA)
today launched an effort to provide automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to
communities with critical needs.
Announcing the effort during
the first-ever National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated
External Defibrillator (AED) Awareness Week, Defibtech CEO Dr. Glenn W. Laub
said the effort will address the dangers posed by sudden cardiac arrest and
correct some common misperceptions about the roles of CPR and AEDs. To read an
article by Dr. Laub about how these roles are commonly misperceived, go to http://www.suddencardiacarrest.org
and click the "SCAA Celebrates National CPR/AED Awareness Week" link.
Chris Chiames, Sudden
Cardiac Arrest Association executive director, said the association will work
through its 25 local chapters and affiliates to identify communities where AEDs
are needed to strengthen the "chain of survival," which includes 911 services,
individuals trained in CPR, public-access defibrillators, and medical services
including emergency, recovery and preventative care. "Using its grassroots
network, the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association will identify areas where
public-access defibrillators can mean the difference between life and death,"
he said.
As these areas are
identified, Defibtech will make donations appropriate to the need, Dr. Laub
said, with the first donations to occur during June in honor of National CPR
and AED Awareness Week. He added that Defibtech's Lifeline™ and ReviveR™ AEDs are
outstanding public-access defibrillator products. "Defibtech's AEDs are very
easy to use, even by bystanders who have the desire to help a victim of sudden
cardiac arrest but who may have not received prior training."

About the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association
The Sudden Cardiac Arrest
Association (SCAA) is an organization singularly focused on sudden cardiac
arrest. SCAA identifies and unites survivors, those at risk of sudden cardiac
arrest, as well as others who are interested in being advocates on SCAA issues
in their communities and beyond. The membership is dedicated to promoting
solutions to prevent sudden cardiac death, including increased awareness,
immediate bystander action, public access to defibrillation (PAD), and access
to therapies (principally ICDS--implantable cardiac defibrillators). To learn
more, go to www.suddencardiacarrest.org
