Defibtech Ships over 850 Automated External Defibrillators to the State of Maine
GUILFORD, CT – December 29, 2005 – Defibtech, manufacturer of the award-winning, price- and performance-leading Lifeline™ and ReviveR™ brand automated external defibrillators (AEDs), today announced that for the third year in a row, the state of Maine selected the company's AEDs for deployment throughout the state.
This year the state of Maine ordered more than 250 AEDs. Combined with previous orders, the State of Maine will have received over 850 Defibtech Lifeline AEDs over three years. These AEDs have been, and will continue to be, deployed throughout rural communities in fire and emergency services vehicles, police vehicles and community facilities. The state of Maine purchased the AEDs through a Federal grant provided under the Congressional Rural Access to Emergency Devices Act.

AEDs revive victims of sudden cardiac arrest caused by ventricular fibrillation. Health experts estimate that sudden cardiac arrest kills about 400,000 people in the United States and millions of people worldwide each year. Studies show that if victims are defibrillated within a minute or two after arrest, more than 70 percent survive. If defibrillation is delayed for more than 10 minutes, only 5 percent live, making immediate access to AEDs vital.
